  • If you are having a concern, understanding your pet's behavior is the first step towards resolving it.

  • It's important to recognize that your pets actions are rarely driven by spite or a desire for power. Often, issues arise from health concerns, miscommunication in training, or a lack of confidence & being comfortable.

  • Whatever your worries may be, we're here to help you bridge that communication gap and foster a better relationship with your furry friend.

Educational Services

Training sessions focus on teaching preventative behaviors, everyday manners, and addressing common nuisance concerns such as jumping and loose leash walking, while building reliable verbal cues.

  • We take a concept-based approach that goes beyond traditional obedience. Rather than training a single cue-response pattern such as sit-down-stay, your dog learns broader rules that can be applied across situations—developing the skills needed to make appropriate choices in real life, not just in specific scenarios.

  • These sessions also serve as follow-up to your initial consultation, allowing us to continue progress with your pet. Sessions are typically 60–90 minutes and take place in your home.

If you're dealing with specific behavioral challenges, our consultations provide expert advice and guidance to help you understand and address your dog's behavior effectively.

  •  An initial session bundle in your home consists of not only the behavior consultation but also a short training session and usually lasts 90 minutes-2hrs. You also will receive a 30-minute follow-up phone or video consultation a few weeks after your initial visit.

Puppy Sessions give your young canine the best start in life. These classes are designed to socialize your puppy, teach basic commands, and lay the foundation for a well-mannered adult dog.

  • In-Home sessions allow you to begin working with your pet, safely even before they have completed thier vaccine series

  • Our session consist of 3 separate 60 minute sessions spaced accordingly.

  • In many situations we can adjust this schedule to meet your personal needs.

Our phone and video consultations offer flexible options, whether you  prefer an in-person session or a video meeting.

  • We offer free 15 minute phone conversations to ensure we are focusing on your needs

  • We are here to provide support and engage in a more in-depth conversation about any concerns you may have, building on the information you’ve already received.

  • We can in many situations provide you with full behavior counseling services utilizing videos and handouts.

We partner with social establishments, pet-focused businesses, veterinary hospitals, and animal shelters to deliver practical, evidence-based education on animal behavior, training, handling, and public manners. Our programs are designed to support both staff and clients—whether through structured training sessions, client-facing workshops, or consultation on integrating preventative behavior services and Low Stress Handling® into daily operations.
Many of our offerings are complimentary, reflecting our commitment to strengthening the human–animal relationship through early education, clear communication, and a thoughtful, perspective-driven approach

Meet Maria

Dog and person bonding

I’ve been fascinated by how animals think and communicate for as long as I can remember—starting as a kid reading anything I could get my hands on about behavior and training. That curiosity never really went away; it just grew into a career.

Over the past 30 years as a Veterinary Nurse and dog trainer, I’ve continued to follow that interest, eventually becoming a Certified Behavior Counselor in 2001. The field of behavior has evolved quickly, and I’ve made a point to grow with it—mentoring with a Veterinary Behaviorist, helping integrate behavior services into veterinary practice, contributing to behavior-related research, and learning through lectures and workshops with professionals like Dr. Ian Dunbar, Dr. Tom Mitchell,  Dr. Sophia Yin and Karen Pryor.

Kitten and person

I have recently become Low Stress Handling© Certified which is preferred over forced restraint to minimize a pet's fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS), which improves safety for both the animal and handler. It builds trust, strengthens the human-animal bond, and prevents the development of aggression or negative associations while interacting with them, leading to better long-term health outcomes and easier future handling

My work includes providing one-on-one and group training classes, pet selection guidance, and small animal behavior consultations for private clients as well as those referred through veterinary practices. I also lecture to professionals and organizations such as the American Veterinary Medical Association and have developed & taught online courses through VetMedTeam on how to build veterinary behavior services and implement puppy and kitten programs within a practice. I regularly speak to the general public on behavior and animal health topics as well.

What matters most to me is helping people understand their pets from the pet’s perspective. When we shift from trying to control behavior to actually communicating clearly, everything changes—for both the animal and the human.
I’ve been affiliated with organizations like the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, Veterinary Technician Animal Behavior Society, and Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians, with a special focus on small animal behavior, Low Stress Handling®, preventative education, and shelter medicine.
I really enjoy being in that space where veterinarians, clients, and pets all come together. I’ve seen just how confusing and frustrating behavior challenges can feel, and I care deeply about helping people make sense of what their pets are trying to communicate—before those challenges turn into bigger behavior or health concerns.

"Maria was very clear on what we needed to do to train Gizmo. She explained everything and gave handouts for future needs. She set up dates and times easily for us and it’s great that it can be at our house. She is so knowledgeable about pups. Everything was perfect.  "

It was really nice that we can learn the concepts of concept based training, but also going at the pace of us and the girls, and their specific other areas of concerns were addressed too. It is really great to not feel like a cookie cutter “this is what everyone gets” but rather here’s the basics AND lets cater to your dogs’ specific needs too as all dogs might have different strengths/areas in need of addressing,

We would absolutely LOVE to hear from you and can not wait to celebrate in the success of your family!

If you wish to share your positive experiences in working with Your Pet Partner's Perspective please send us your testimonial ~ it will surely brighten our day!  Thank you.
